Miller Beach was one of the last regional homes for the Pottawatomie tribes and was settled by Swedish settlers in the 1800s. It was the backdrop for early American silent movies and the flying experiments of aviation pioneer Octave Chanute. Famously, it was also the weekend retreat for the Chicago author Nelson Algren and the French existentialist philosopher Simone de Beauvoir.  Today, Miller Beach continues to be a welcoming, diverse community Come discover our friendly community for yourself!

Gary’s Miller Beach neighborhood has a lovely collection of beach cottages, luxurious shore line homes, and hundreds of mid-century Hoosier homes serving a mixture of year-round residents and seasonal visitors. Architectural treasures include architect George W. Maher’s gorgeous Marquette Pavilion and Chanute Aquatorium and Gallery. We are proud to be the lakeshore neighborhood of Gary, Indiana, conveniently located within the Chicago metro and the Calumet Heritage Area.
